Dahouët

A series of paintings made of the port and coastline near Dahouët in Brittany. All paintings in this series stem from sketchbook studies made in late July and early August 2023, when the weather delivered a full spectrum of drama, from blue skies to an Atlantic, high water storm.

Dahouët itself is a small port on the North Brittany coast.  Possessing a haunting sense of history; it's sheltered entrance has been a refuge and departure point for many over the centuries.

The work is influenced by J.M.W.Turner, John Singer Sargent and Joseph Zbukvic, and aims to capture something of the transient nature of the environment, of how life there is paced by the tide and how these cycles relentlessly count the passing of time.
