Small Watercolours

The Dutch Landscape offers a particular set of challenges to a painter.  The weight of history and tradition is, of course, a forever present ghost embodied in windmills, agriculture, die straight dykes and other reminders of natures  kowtow. As a buitenlander I have a politely irreverent angle on this.  The landscape is settled yet restless; passively harried by sublime, primal forces that silently threaten to reclaim their domain.  For me, this is a borrowed land, a transitional pause.
